Heart and Soul Series

The Worthy Small Batch Series – Heart & Soul

Our 5 barrel pilot brew system is the Heart and Soul of Worthy. This is where our brewers get to mix up the medicine and make the magic. We built Worthy because of our love of hops. That’s why a hop cone is in our logo. We collaborate with Indie Hops and Oregon State University in testing new hops that emerge from their aroma hop breeding program. We also experiment with new herbs, fruits, malts and just about anything that might taste good. It’s just about anything goes. We serve our H & S series brews in our pub only. Fresh, tasty and hand crafted.

400 PPM

400 PPM is the atmospheric CO2 Rubicon. At Worthy we’re doing our part to bring us back from that dire threshold. We sourced all the ingredients from within 150 miles – the malt is from Vancouver, the rolled oats are Bob’s Red Mill from Milwaukee and the hops were grown in Silverton and milled in Hubbard at Indie Hops. Earthy, lemon peel aroma. Euro spicy flavor. Dry finish with a bite. What are you doing to reduce your carbon footprint?

Ahhnold Schwartzbier

This dark lager has plenty of roastiness in the aroma and flavor with hints of nuts and chocolate, and just a light hint of bitterness to remind you that you’re in the Pacific Northwest. The velvety body finishes clean, as a lager should. Lagers are fermented at colder temperatures, so as Dr. Freeze would say, “Tonight’s forecast: a freeze is coming!”

Alt Bier (JOHN GALT-BIER)

Drinking this old meets new world beer voluntarily and with gusto is in your rational self-interest.  Dark amber colored with a creamy head. Home-baked bread on the nose. Caramel, lightly roasted nuts and noble spice on the tongue. Lagered a little bit longer so you can drink it a little bit faster. Go with John GALT and shrug off the weight of the world.

Ann'y Golden Ale

At Worthy, we don’t often get off track. But when we do, we always get back on – smarter, stronger and better. Some call that “resilience.” Or “durability.”  We call it Crash Worthy. Like our team, Worthy’s 4th Birthday Bash beer is crisp, refreshing, zesty, golden, honey-sweet, fun and frothy. Thanks for motivating us to keep the dream alive.

Aussie Pale

This pale ale was crafted with new, innovative Australian malts, giving it a rich, earthy aroma and flavor. Additions of Southern Cross hops, a New Zealand variety, give this beer a fruity nose and just enough bitterness. Enjoy the tastes from Down Under with this malty pale! Pairs well with our Warm Beet Salad, Oregon Pear Pizza, and Worthy Mac ‘N Cheese.

Badlands Black IPA

We don’t sojourn to the Badlands because it’s “bad.” We go there because it’s good. It’s where we go to escape the noise, the hustle, and the daily trespasses. It may be vast, Paleolithic, simple and stark, but finding yourself on the sandy floor of an ancient ocean does wonders for the imagination, as well as the senses.

In the same way, our Badlands Black IPA looks anything but complex. It’s dark, a color we tend to associate with roasty heaviness… stoutiness….and porterness. Yet, if you close your eyes, and take a whiff, and let your senses truly lock in, you can visualize the fresh cut grapefruit, the juicy lemon and a fat and fragrant joint.

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.  if you dare.  A faint smoke of ghost and chipotle peppers on the nose. Munich malt sweetness to balance out the Cayenne heat on the tongue.  We sprinkled beets and beet powder late in the boil for a fiery reddish hue. All that smoke and flame but it finishes with a pleasant warmth that is sure to beat back the demons and liberate he better angels of our nature. Historians note: this is really our 666th batch since Creation.

Belgian Pale (BACKYARD)

Fresh hop season is back! this Belgian pale ale was brewed with hops picked in our biergarten that were gently dried in-house and is a classic reminder of the warm, sunny days of the summer. With a beautiful gold-amber color, this beer is refreshing and bubbly. Earthy, grassy, and fruity characters highlight the nose and flavor, followed by a light spiciness from the Belgian wit yeast used.

Belgian Table Beer

Traditionally served with meals, Table Beers are light-bodied and low in alcohol, yet still remain flavorful. This light bodied and bubbly brew is a stark contrast to the Winter beers out there right now; brewed specifically to be easy drinking.  With a fragrant, fruity nose, this beer has a slight biscuit taste with a hint of lemon. The Belgian yeast used to brew this beer gives it a crisp, and refreshing finish.

Belgian table beers are a low alcohol beer meant to be enjoyed with a meal. We went a little against tradition and have a higher level of carbonation than more classic interpretations. Berlinerweiss (Rhubarbarella)

Berliner Weisse is a traditional beer originating in northern Germany. This low alcohol wheat beer is soured with a lactic acid producing bacteria. Rhubarb grown on D&D Ranch and sourced through Agricultural Connections was added to contribute additional tartness and a subtle fruity character. Traditionally the beer is served with a small pour of syrup to offset the tartness. We used strawberries grown in our own garden to complete the strawberry rhubarb flavor combination. Big IPA (Litigator)

For when you absolutely, positively will not settle. Except, as every trial lawyer knows, when it’s practical. Here, our mission was to find that sweet spot between a traditional IPA and it’s bigger Imperial Brother.  Did we make our case? Orange copper color with a rich foamy head on the pour. Caramel toffee sweetness with mango, papaya, guava fruitiness on the nose. The taste is all of that with a warming, resinous, dry dank finish. Five hops, including tropical fruit zingers Azacca and Citra.   What’s your verdict? Did we meet our burden of proof?

The Sixties gave us many things: Hippies, LSD, LBJ, Ken Kesey, Robert Crumb, Kent State, and Woodstock, to name a few. It also gave us the Black Light, that iconic purple bulb that lit up your favorite fluorescent Jimi poster and zapped out the heaviness.

In the spirit of making things pop, Worthy is pleased to introduce Black Light Porter, a medium-bodied mahogany colored porter to which we added bittersweet high altitude, Ecuadorian dark cacao nibs. Bust Out Bock

Although brewed in the traditional German lagering style, this dark, chewy, malty baby’s anything but your thin yellow fizzy. Far from it.

Dark and rich as mahogany. Chewy as liquid biscuit, the way the fasting Friars of yesteryear liked it. Tasty, like deep purple fruits spread on toast sprinkled with caramel-covered pecans. Let it sit for second. And then taste the warm, full-bodied bloom of all that toasty malt slow dancing with the dark, sweet fruits.

So, when your stomach’s growling but weirdly enough you can hold off on the eating, ‘cause by gawd, you want to drink, this is your appetizer, dinner and dessert all poured into a pint.

Dark Muse Imperial Stout is a big, complex and dark malty ale with roasted characters of coffee and molasses. Alcoholic warmth blends well with sweet chocolate, vanilla, and toffee aromas with finishing notes of earthy tobacco. Awaken your muse.

Our 2016 vintage Dark Muse slept for 13 months in freshly emptied Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. We blended in a small amount of 2017 Muse to balance the intense Bourbon aromas and flavors. This vintage picked up a pleasant amount of oak and adds a small amount of dried fruit and hazelnut to the already complex Dark Muse profile.

Labor Power Red Lager

Back inda day there was a bike race team out of Texas and Southern California that dominated masters bike racing. It was called “Labor Power.” The team’s mantra was “gritty not pretty.” Their official mission was to win for journeyman unionists suffering from lung-killing asbestosis. Their real crusade was to “pound the pecker headed pretenders with impunity purely for the sake of pleasure.”

Labor Power cultivated a reputation for going hard at what they loved, sometimes even too hard. They thrashed, slashed and bashed, whatever it took to win. And win they did: over 500 races from 1995 to 2008.

Machine Gun Maggie IIPA

Machine Gun Maggie was brewed with the residents of Aspen Ridge Retirement Community, named for one of their granddaughters, and proceeds from each pint will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.  This triple IPA was brewed with 4 Pacific NW hop varieties. While this beer certainly has a warm kick, it actually comes off quite balanced with a pleasant malt backbone and assertive bitter finish. 10 oz.

Mondo Manna IPA

This summer we squirreled away a stash of Mandarina Bavaria hops.  We thought you might be thirsty for a fruit-forward IPA when the snows came. Voila. Orange on the nose, more zesty citrus on the tongue with a hint of rye spiciness, and a juicy Big O finish. Like a gift from Above. Via Bavaria. (Don’t decipher. Drink.)

Nitro Cream

This Winter’s been a bit of a beat-down. Well here’s your reward for hanging in there. A taste of rich and foamy luxury.  We used flaked barley and a touch of corn to bring home that creamy sweetness.  Lavishly spiced with El Dorado and Perle hops. But wait, there’s more. To bolster its smooth and velvety texture, we put this opulent ale on nitro.  Take a sip, close your eyes and lap up those boat-drink notes of honey, bread, melons and oranges.

Oktoberfest

It’s that time again to toast the joys of German-inspired lagers and klank your frothy mugs. In lieu of a chilly Bavarian cave, we lagered our brew for the last two months in R.G. Worthy’s Private Stash, a tank dedicated to light, crisp and refreshing beers. Brewed with imported malts, this is a rich, golden amber-colored lager that utilizes Oregon-grown and Hallertauer Mittelfruh-inspired Crystal and Santiam hops. We added French Oak spirals to enhance the creamy mouthfeel. The slightly sweet finish will leave you thirsty for more. But get it while you can. The beer that takes the longest to brew tends to run out the fastest.

ONDA

Beers Made By Walking is a program that invites brewers to make beer inspired by nature hikes and urban walks. Each walk is different, each beer is a portrait of that landscape. Worthy Brewmaster Chad Kennedy hiked in the Badlands, just East of the brewery to gather Juniper tips, juniper berries, Indian Rice grass, Desert Sage, wheatgrass, and fescue, which were all used to brew this Badlands Indigenous Ale.

Peach Saison

“Heart of the Peach“ celebrates the North West’s bounty of nature and beauty. We’ve put a bit of a twist on our traditional Saison by using peaches from Oregon Fruit Products. The result is a brightly carbonated Saison with a creamy mouthfeel, subtle clove and white pepper yeast flavors, along with hints of tangerine and peach to round out the profile in aroma and taste.

Pilot Butte Bitter

Our “bitter” is a taste of traditional British-style ales. This beer was brewed using imported Maris Otter malt, which is a barley variety favored by British brewers for its superior flavor. A karmicaly balanced biscuity-bready malt beverage destined to deliver an English spicy character. With it’s lower alcohol and clean crisp finish, Pilot Butte Bitter is the perfect lubricant to robust bordering on volcanic feasting with friends over a Smokehouse pizza. Take a vigorous walk or ride up nearby Pilot Butte cinder cone and reward yourself afterwards with a beverage fit for a king.

Sweet Ride Wit

What goes with a hot day, manual labor and an old truck? A cold beer of course. This beer’s for those who love the mechanical action of drinking a tasty beverage without the imminent threat of crashing. We took the classic Belgian recipe – wheat, barley, coriander, orange and banana-esque yeast, and added lemon, so you don’t need to add a wedge to your pint glass. Crisp, cloudy, fruity, sweet and refreshing. Enjoy the ride!

Thai Gose

Pronounced GO-suh, a traditional kettle soured ale, originating in Germany. We went classic with malted wheat and sea salt. Then took it a step further by adding fresh Thai basil and  Kaffir lime leaves, sourced from Uwajimaya in Portland. Lime comes through in aroma, along with some herbal notes. Sour and slightly salty on the tongue with a fresh, tart lime finish.

In German, “Helles” means light. This brushed copper-colored lager is anything but. Rich carmel toffee aroma with joyful dark fruit and honey sweetness. Medium-bodied with a smooth toasty and fresh biscuity malt ride that finishes with a dry and spry peppery hop punch.

The Helles Bock originated in Germany to celebrate the warmest days of Spring just before Summer. At 6.3% ABV, it’s not the kind of beer you can pound down after toiling in the hot sun. A perfect spring time beer or wind down beer as the sun’s setting on a roasty-toasty summer day.
